Coffee Pouches
Coffee packing pouches are manufactured from layers of laminated barrier film to protect the coffee from moisture, vapour, odour, and other undesirable elements. Historically, aluminium foil was one of the principal layers of coffee pouches (at one time it was). New film structures and coffee pouch types are booming.
FILM
Many coffee roasters believe aluminium foil pouches are the sole option, but that's not true. Aluminium foil is expensive and doesn't "flex." Aluminium foil is one of the most expensive barrier layers available, however several metalized films containing PET and other substrates have similar barrier qualities. Metalized film bends and recovers if bent or crumpled, but foil stays creased, leaving folds and lines on the packaging. Remember clean film! Clear films or those with a matte finish can be developed to offer great barrier qualities and a unique aesthetic compared to opaque coffee pouches..
STYLES
Centre Quad Seal Common coffee pouches are Fin Style. These styles have existed for years and don't lend themselves to zip locks or re-closable options other than tin-ties or stick-on labels. Many companies are looking for alternatives to these "stale" coffee packets.
Traditional stand-up pouches in the UK can be used to package coffee, with a round, K, or plough bottom. Many companies disregard this style, which can be created with resealable alternatives to protect the coffee within. This approach would stand out in a "follower" industry.
Flat Bottom gusset bag—Flexible Box Pouches are novel flexible packaging. This creative design mimics a box or folding carton and offers 5 printing and branding surfaces. This method uses 15% less film than others but has higher volume.
They come in various sizes, from small coffee pouches to large coffee pouches, black coffee pouches to white coffee pouches. And they are also capable of holding in any type of coffee, as you can see the products listed as “grind coffee pouches”, “coffee bean pouches” or “coffee ground pouches”. Not only do the bags have different styles, colours and sizes to choose from, but they also adapt to the types of coffee they will be containing. Eco friendly coffee pouches are also available and are great options to protect the environment.
FEATURES
- Ziplocks are common for coffee packaging pouches.. Quad seal and centre fin types don't work well with a zipper. Press-to-close, slide, and double-track ziplocks exist.
- Hang Holes enable coffee pouch display. There are spherical hang holes and more ornate "euro" or "sombrero" hang holes.
- Tear notches help open pouches.. These notches are frequently above the ziplock on one or both sides of coffee packaging. Manufacturers can use a laser to produce perforated tear notches across a pouch so it tears evenly and straight.
- Coffee roasters' coffee pouches need gas release valves. Ground coffee emits an out-gas that must be discharged. A gas release valve lets out gas escape but keeps air out. So the contents stay fresh and out-gas.
