What is the contribution of Bio Based & Metal Free Pouches to Eco Friendly Pouch Packaging Solutions?
Bio Based and Metal Free Pouches
Greenhouse gases are the major factor for climate change. Bio based plastics used in our Eco-Friendly Stand-up Pouches are developed to reduce the carbon footprint of plastic to our planet.
Major source of bio-plastic used in our pouches is sugarcane. Sugarcane, after a series of industrial processes, is polymerized and becomes plastic. Once Sugarcane is polymerized then the performance is just like the fossil based plastic.

Bio Based LDPE has negative Carbon Print
- 3.09Kg of CO2 Captured per each KG of Bio-based LDPE produced
Vs.
- 2 Kg of CO2 released per each KG of Oil-based LDPE produced
This study is based on a life cycle study of both bio-based and oil based plastics. Sugarcane is harvested almost one year after planting. During one year sugarcane captures Co2 from the atmosphere for the photosynthesis process. This is when the main contribution occurs.
Important Information Regarding Sustainability of Bio-Plastics
- 90% of sugarcane cultivation and harvesting in Brazil is concentrated in the country's Center-South region, which is located more than 2,500 km from the Amazon region.
- The expansion in the sugarcane planted area is regulated by the Sugarcane Agro-ecological Zoning Policy, a regulatory framework implemented in 2009 by the federal government that prohibits planting in high-biodiversity areas.
- Bio-Based plastics doesn’t involve big oil monopolies instead farmers are paid at a fair value in return to their crops.
